Prenatal Care

Prenatal chiropractic care focuses on maintaining the health and alignment of the spinal column, and pelvis through a period of significant physical and hormonal changes during pregnancy. This specialized care is tailored to the needs of expectant mothers and is designed to relieve pain, improve pelvic function, and support the body's natural ability to have a healthier pregnancy and childbirth. Here's an overview of the process:

  1. Initial Consultation and Assessment: The chiropractor begins with a thorough assessment of the patient's health history and current condition. This may include discussing any symptoms, discomforts, or concerns related to the pregnancy. The chiropractor will also evaluate posture, spinal alignment, and overall physical health.

  2. Developing a Treatment Plan: Based on the initial assessment, the chiropractor develops a personalized treatment plan. This plan considers the stage of pregnancy, any specific symptoms or conditions, and the overall health and wellness goals of the patient.

  3. Gentle Adjustments: Prenatal chiropractic adjustments are gentle and specifically adapted for pregnancy. They aim to correct spinal misalignments and improve nervous system function. These adjustments can help alleviate back pain, neck pain, and joint discomfort, which are common during pregnancy.

  4. Pelvic Balance: A key focus of prenatal chiropractic care is ensuring pelvic balance and alignment. This can help the baby assume the best possible position for birth and may reduce the likelihood of complications during delivery, such as breech presentation.

  5. Exercises and Stretches: The chiropractor may recommend specific exercises and stretches to strengthen and relax the muscles supporting the spine and pelvis. These exercises can improve flexibility, reduce discomfort, and prepare the body for childbirth.

Pregnancy

50% of pregnant women suffer from back pain and 50% - %75 experience back pain during delivery. In a study done of expectant mothers under chiropractic care for back pain, more than 7 out of 10 pregnant women saw a positive change from chiropractic.

Our goal is for pregnant moms to feel cared for as a patient first and a pregnant mom second. Pain during pregnancy doesn’t have to be normal and there are gentle, safe, and affective ways that we can help to alleviate the discomfort commonly associated with pregnancy. During pregnancy, Dr. Roy uses the Webster technique. It is specialized, gentle, and has proven results. Applying this technique leads to the correct alignment and movement of the pelvic structure allowing the ligaments surrounding the uterus to relax. This unwinding removes constriction and allows the baby to have the optimum amount of space to grow and position itself accurately in the birth canal for labor and delivery.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy can help to alleviate issues such as:

  • Low back pain, tail bone pain, sciatic pain

  • Reducing the time of labor and labor pains by up to 40%

  • Decreasing rates of potential cesarean delivery and induction

  • Optimizing the position of mom’s pelvis to help baby avoid abnormal birthing presentation

  • Reducing symptoms of nausea

  • Increasing energy and promoting better sleep

Secondary Conditions:

  • Round ligament pain

  • Pubic symphysis

  • Digestive problems including reflux, heartburn, and constipation
